Wimbledon, by Andrew Power, 1933

This is one of two posters commissioned by London Transport in 1933 to promote the annual tennis tournament at Wimbledon. It was designed by Sybil Andrews whose preferred name was Andrew Power.

Whilst studying at the New Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London, Andrews shared a studio with Cyril Power. Power was later instrumental in obtaining poster commissions for her from London Transport. She acknowledged this by signing the work 'Andrew Power'. Her posters for London Transport, all dating from 1933, were also given the joint signature 'Andrew Power'.

Sybil Andrews designed posters for London Transport between 1933 and 1935.

The other Wimbledon poster commissioned that year, designed by EA Marty, was in a far more conventional style. By issuing two very different posters, London Transport could appeal to a broader audience.

To make a return, please follow our instructions below:

1. Send an email to [email protected] within 14 days of receiving your goods to notify us of the return.
2. Return the item(s) to the address below within 28 days of receiving the item/s. Please make sure to include your order number. Clothing items which are being returned due to incorrect sizing can be returned opened as long they are unworn, and the tags are attached.
3. The return shipment cost must be paid by you and will not be covered by the London Transport Museum, unless the item is faulty. We would recommend that you use recorded delivery.
4. Once the returned item/s has been received and processed by our warehouse, we will issue you a refund within 14 working days.
