Opening of the Piccadilly line extension by Cecil Walter Bacon 1932

This poster was published to coincide with the opening on the Piccadilly Extension on the 19th September 1932 by the Underground Electric Railways Company Ltd. The poster was designed by Cecil Walter Bacon who was born in Battle, Sussex in 1905 and studied locally at the Hastings School of Art between 1923 and 1925. After this he joined a commercial advertising agency in London where he worked until 1929. Following on from this work he became freelance which was when he started working on commissions for London Transport. Alongside posters he designed a substantial number of book jackets and in his later career produced respected work for British Railways and the Post Office Savings Bank.

The poster shows the route of the extension with the five new station names being rolled back by two blue figures.

To make a return, please follow our instructions below:

1. Send an email to [email protected] within 14 days of receiving your goods to notify us of the return.
2. Return the item(s) to the address below within 28 days of receiving the item/s. Please make sure to include your order number. Clothing items which are being returned due to incorrect sizing can be returned opened as long they are unworn, and the tags are attached.
3. The return shipment cost must be paid by you and will not be covered by the London Transport Museum, unless the item is faulty. We would recommend that you use recorded delivery.
4. Once the returned item/s has been received and processed by our warehouse, we will issue you a refund within 14 working days.
