London memories; Hampstead, by Fred Taylor, 1918

A poster advertising one of the popular outside spaces in London – Hampstead. The subtle colours used, predominantly greens, gives a feeling of calm from the summertime view of sheep grazing on the hillside. The poster was produced in 1918 for the Underground Electric Railway Company Ltd.

The artist was Fred Taylor who was one of Britain’s most important poster artists from 1908 to the 1940s. He was able to paint most subjects but was best known for his posters of buildings and architecture. He lived in London where he was a member of the Art Workers’ Guild from 1924. Along with designing posters for the Underground and London Transport he also designed them for the Empire Marketing Board as well as shipping and railway companies. Fred Taylor was also a decorative painter who exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and during World War 2 he was an official camouflage artist.

To make a return, please follow our instructions below:

1. Send an email to [email protected] within 14 days of receiving your goods to notify us of the return.
2. Return the item(s) to the address below within 28 days of receiving the item/s. Please make sure to include your order number. Clothing items which are being returned due to incorrect sizing can be returned opened as long they are unworn, and the tags are attached.
3. The return shipment cost must be paid by you and will not be covered by the London Transport Museum, unless the item is faulty. We would recommend that you use recorded delivery.
4. Once the returned item/s has been received and processed by our warehouse, we will issue you a refund within 14 working days.
