It formed one of a series to encourage travel to the countryside, using four different departments of London Transport. This image of a green woodpecker, being watched by a couple in the background, was painted by Clifford and Rosemary Ellis and is accompanied by a short poem: 'The busy Woodpecker, Made stiller by her sound, The inviolable quietness'.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eClifford Ellis attended St. Marin’s School of Art Polytechnic and London University. Much of his work was done in collaboration with his wife Rosemary Ellis. They married in 1931 and they worked together on poster designs for Shell, the Empire Marketing Board and the General Post office, as well as London Transport.
