Johnston came to London and studied at the Slade School of Art before beginning her career as a prolific artist who carved in marble and wood as well as a painter. Throughout Johnston’s works, animals are a recurring theme, not surprisingly her works for London Transport which she designed between 1930-1935 include several for London Zoo.
